"Simply stated, organic produce and other ingredients are grown without the use of pesticides, synthetic fertilizers, sewage sludge, genetically modified organisms, or ionizing radiation. Animals that produce meat, poultry, eggs, and dairy products do not take antibiotics or growth hormones" That's the official definition of organic from organic.org
Perhaps though organic isn't enough to look for. Most have heard about arsenic risks from consumption of rice and apple juice, but that's only part of the problem. For example when you purchase an organic tomato, you know it was grown without the use of pesticides, synthetic fertilizers, sewage sludge, genetically modified organisms, or ionizing radiation, however without testing you don't know if that organic tomato is free of heavy metals such as mercury, lead, cadmium, arsenic, copper, and tungsten which are in the soil, water or air and can contaminate food. It's already well known through a 2004 study that if there is lead in the soil it will be in every aspect of the vegetation that grows in that soil.
And slow growing nutrients like turmeric and other ayurvedic botanicals that are in the soil longer may be organic, but many of them to have been tested to be high in various heavy metals.
For more than a century concerned consumers have been aware that the synthetic pesticides of conventional farming leave heavy metals in the ground. But it's been an industry secret that the same toxins are in the organic soil. It also appears to be a secret to most consumers that it's not just conventional farming methods that are an issue.
Scientists have known since the 1920s that organic fertilizers used by farmers to supplement conventional systems—composted animal manure, rock phosphates, fish emulsions, guano, wood ashes, etc.—further contaminate topsoil with varying concentrations of heavy metals. Organic advocates, who rely exclusively on these fertilizers, remain well aware of the problem today, even though this appears as well to be an industry secret.
While nobody is saying that organic soil has higher heavy-metal counts than conventional soil, in 2007, researchers conducted an analysis of wheat grown on various farms in Belgium; based on the results, they estimate that consumers of organically grown wheat take in more than twice as much lead, slightly more cadmium, and nearly equivalent levels of mercury as consumers of wheat grown on conventional farms.
Heavy metals are now being found in USDA certified organic foods, superfoods, vitamins, herbs and dietary supplements at alarming levels. Neither the USDA nor the FDA has set any limits on heavy metals in foods and organic foods
The implications of this fact cannot be overlooked. The human body naturally contains trace amounts of heavy metals, but when they accumulate faster than the body can excrete them, several serious health problems can follow, including cardiovascular and neurological disorders as well as kidney and liver damage. The Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry, a division of the U.S. Public Health Service, cites fruit and grain consumption as the leading cause of lead exposure in the general population.
The answer is simple. Look for foods that state clearly that they contain foods tested low in heavy metals like IQed. IQed is not just all natural but goes beyond that as each ingredient is a certified food tested free of not only heavy metals but also tested free of any hormones, pesticides and herbicides, stimulants, preservatives, genetically modified ingredients or synthetic contaminants.

By now you probably know based on numerous studies that ayurvedic foods are very healthy for you. What you may not be aware of is that most ayurvedic botanicals are slow growing and many OTC ayurvedic botanicals, especially organic, are high in heavy metals. Unless you purchase a product that specifically states their botanicals are tested free of heavy metals, you will not know how much lead, copper, tin, zinc, cadmium, arsenic, and mercury you are also consuming. The amount of arsenic and copper present in the organic turmeric brands from one study, for example, was proved to be harmful to health.
All ingredients in IQedTM are food and tested free of heavy metals, hormones, pesticides and herbicides, stimulants, preservatives, genetically modified ingredients or synthetic contaminants. . Haritaki [Terminalia chebula] Haritaki has been regarded very highly from ancient times by traditional healers and it is rightly called the mother of herbs. In Sanskrit, Haritaki means “carries away” (all diseases). The date-like haritaki fruit serves as a gentle and effective detoxifying agent for the body. Through its astringent taste, the haritaki stimulates the metabolic fire of the cells Probably due to its antioxidant properties haritaki is known as an adaptogen. Haritaki is the polyphenolic/phytonutrient-rich fruit of the Terminalia Chebula tree. Haritaki is a safe and effective purgative, expectorant and tonic. It is widely used in ayurvedic as a rejuvenating agent as well as to help with the metabolic system. Haritaki promotes health through successive steps of purification and detoxification. Supporting the body's natural cleansing process, it increases digestive enzymes and gently removes accumulated natural toxins in the gastrointestinal tract. As a rejuvenative, it supports the proper function of the colon,
Gymnema [Gymnema sylvestre] Gymnema has been used by Ayurvedic healers to help support healthy blood sugar levels for thousands of years. Gymnemia is an Ayurvedic herb promoting healthy metabolic function. Gymnema contains many powerful phytonutrients including triterpenoids which have adaptogenic qualities that enhance the body’s ability to respond to stress Used for nearly 2,000 years in Ayurvedic tradition, historically Gymnema is called “the sugar destroyer” because of its ability to interfere with the absorbability of sugar in the mouth and in the intestinal tract. Recent studies have found that Gymnema Sylvestre demonstrated significant antioxidant activity, and contains phytonutrients that support the normalization of blood glucose levels and the production of insulin to within normal ranges. Gymnemia has antiviral and antimicrobial properties.
Cocoa [Theobroma Cacao] Cocoa beans were used as currency as well as the drink of the elite by ancient Mesoamerican civilizations. The use of cocoa as a store of value persisted even into colonial times. Modern research has discovered that cocoa is good for blood vessel health and packs some of nature’s most powerful phytonutrients called cocoa flavanols to help our body stay in tune. The flavanols, have been linked in studies with improved memory and thinking skills. Numerous scientific studies have demonstrated that these cocoa flavanols promote healthy blood flow from head to toe. Our heart, brain, and muscles depend on a healthy circulatory system. It helps us feel our best and perform at our highest. And supporting healthy blood flow is essential to helping you maintain who you are for years to come. Cocoa powder, loaded with adaptogens, contains catechins, Cacao, epicatechin, theobromine, and the polymers procyanidins, polyphenols all excellent antioxidants. Cocoa has more phenolic phytochemicals and a higher antioxidant capacity than teas and red wine Studies have found that cocoa helps boost the growth of beneficial probiotics in the gut, and is therefore considered a prebiotic along with an antioxidant.
Cinnamon [Cinnamomum verum]
Cayenne [Capsicum annuum]
